Timber nest-boxes generally require a
climbing structure attached inside the box below the entrance hole. Both
logs and nests need an entrance hole/opening about 100 mm (about 4 inches) from
the top. Many species of parrots like the entrance hole to be just big enough to
squeeze through.
Budgie nestbox.
Typical size about 210mm long x 140mm deep x 130mm high (about 8 x 6 x 5
inches).
Entry hole about 50mm (2 inches).
Often made from chipboard/mdf or pine timber.
Budgies use a depression cut into the nest base in which to lay their eggs.

Tall timber nest box with a "boot". The "boot" section
allows the hen to incubate with reduced rise of a bird entering the nest
and landing on the eggs.
Climbing structure is essential inside the
nest box. Nest inspection point is above the nest/boot portion.
Entry hole can be varied to allow for size differences between species.
This nest is probably a bit too close to the roof. This nest box
may heat up in summer from heat radiating from the roof.
Nest box on an angle of about 45 degrees. This style has a
horizontal base. A landing platform is attached in front of
the nestbox. Hinged inspection point is above the horizontal base
section.
Dimensions of the nest box and entry hole can be changed to cater for
varying sizes of parrot species. Being a timber nest box, it will
generally require a climbing structure attached inside the box below the
entrance hole.
